Well, it is time again to add a second scripture to your spiral!! These past two weeks have been a challenge, as the verse I picked immediately came to mind several times (particularly when I was about to open my mouth)!!
Beth Moore reminds us to, "Watch your prayer life change. Check out John 15:7-8. The more God's Word abides in us, the more the mind of Christ is developed in us. The end result will be that we will pray more and more of God's will and get more and more of what we've asked. Do not think for a moment that praying in the will of God narrows your requests. It blows them wide open!"
Thanks to those who posted their first scripture . . .it has been inspiring reading them, and what they mean to you. I am posting a video which has nothing to do with our scripture memory, but has everything to do with what it is all about!!!
I want to be like this little boy! He knows that when he is troubled, he can go running into the arms of GOD...our sanctuary! This is such an inspiring video!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, JAM!
When we agreed to memorize scripture, we all had a purpose in mind. Mine was to re-FOCUS the direction of my life. To move it closer to the purpose that God has for me. The first verse that I chose, was to remind me who is in control, and to calm my soul, no matter what is going on in the world around me. The second verse I have chosen, is to keep me focused on the face of God.
My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, Lord, I will seek. Psalm 27:8
"Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good." Romans 12:21 NIV
ReplyDeleteMy verse today is one that reminds me that "good" can overcome evil! This somewhat reminds me of my mother. When I was young and complained about the way I was treated by someone else, she used to respond, "Kill them with kindness!". In no way, did I want to go and be nice to someone who I thought was being mean to me. However, I have to admit her advice was good and usually worked! This verse also reminds me that God is in control!! I just have to let him!
"Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations." Deuteronomy 7:9
ReplyDeleteI always need to be reminded that God is faithful!
Thanks for inviting me to join your group. I'd like to have a mind more like Christ! So here goes my first scripture with all of your second
ReplyDeletescriptures:
"Yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings (the wicked) in the presence of the Lord."
This verse is from 2 Peter 2:11, and it really helps to read it in context, but I'm only memorizing this one verse.
When I read this verse in the course of another Bible study I was blown away by it. Even holy angels don't speak negatively about the most dispicable human beings in God's presence. It just illuminates how HOLY He is, and how much VALUE He places on every individual. You and I are so special because we were created in His image. Even angels don't dare talk about our worst deeds!
Lastly, it was very convicting to me about any form of gossip. If I fear God, I shouldn't be talking about my husband, children, telephone solicitors, bill collectors, employees, politicians, etc. in a condemning or gossipy way. Since I am always in God's presence, He would always know.
And I love the verse about overcoming evil with good! Thanks, JAM.
2 Corinthians 12:9
ReplyDeleteAnd he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses so that Christ's power may rest on me.
The "My grace is sufficient for you" part of this verse has been a tremendous sustainer since August 8, 2006. It is been the only thing Chuck and I could cling to at times. Continuing with "for my power is made perfect in weakness" gives us hope and comfort in our times of weakness. There are no conditions on His grace being sufficient. It just is. And I am thankful.
Isaiah 40:31
ReplyDelete"but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
I chose this as my second verse to learn because I need more rest in my life, more of God's rest; and I love the sheer beauty of the imagery. It makes me glad to know that when I stumble, God will pick me up.
