February 1 - Scripture post

I know there are some of you who are just now joining us, and we welcome you!!

When it came time to pick scripture last time, I had a really hard time. Several verses had caught my attention (especially some that you posted) but none seemed to be “the one”. The one I ended up choosing was powerful, and several times the last two weeks it has abruptly stopped me from saying or doing something I should not!! I also found comfort one day in frustration when I could grab my spiral and read through my verses. At the back of my spiral I have added some verses that I may or may not get to memorize, but that I felt a need to have handy and help keep me focused.

Someone asked, and the answer is yes! It is okay to learn the same scripture as someone else. That is what this is for . . . to share, learn, and mentor each other in being able to “wield God’s word”! So, if you do not have your scripture picked out, check out some of the previous postings and maybe one of those will speak to you!! Remember to pick one that YOU need!!!

“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” Proverbs 30:5 (NIV)

  1. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.
    James 4:7-8a (NIV)

I, too, have found that the scripture I picked last time, is exactly what I needed (my personal Rx from God)!

  2. "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
    Matthew 6:34 (NIV)

It is hard not to worry, but God has shown me over and over how faithful he is to take care of my needs. I recently got a small book called "Give It All to Him" by Max Lucado. The first story in it is about a woman who is carrying a bag of garbage with her. She aches all over, her hands are raw, and she is tired of carrying this heavy load. As Max Lucado writes " The weight of our sins, our failures, and our worries is too much for one person to carry alone. Jesus wants them all. Give it all to HIM!!"

  3. " I cried to you for help, O Lord my God, and you healed me." Psalms 30:2
As you know, this is a very appropriate verse for my situation over the past year. As we are reminded in another verse, (paraphrasing) we just need to ask and it will be given to us. This is exactly what I, and my loving friends and family, did and continue to do for bodily healing and definitely for spiritual healing. One thing I have never done is blame God for my circumstance. True He has a plan for us and knows exactly what will happen in our lives, but I find it hard to believe/accept that He would "make" someone have cancer or any life threatening problem, just as I will never accept that it is "God's will" when someone dies in a tragic accident. Talk about turning a grieving family against God!
I am here to tell you that crying out for what we truly need will be heard and answered. It is such an all over feeling of the awesomeness of God!!!

  4. Luke 19:10
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.

As I face difficult personal and family circumstances I love this comforting verse which reminds me of Jesus' healing power. I need to continue to trust Him, no matter how things might seem to me. To me, this verse speaks not only about salvation, but about healing hurts and recapturing something that was lost.

  5. To JAM: I shared this with the group yesterday; it is from Kungfu Panda of all places!! " Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." Pretty wise old turtle Zen master says that in the movie. It is so hard to remember that when we are in the midst of a "crisis" of one form or another. Love and peace to you!!

  6. To all: It was shown to me today that the quote was first from Eleanor Roosevelt, not the Zen master turtle from Kung Fu Panda! LOL!!

  7. On KSBJ Sunday night: "God does not call the equipped, he equips the called!"

  8. I'm posting late because I've been out of town. My scripture for this part of February is another verse I've been meditating on. It takes a lot of faith to believe it, but what a promise if you can!

    I John 5:5

Who is it who overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

That's all it takes to overcome the world. To be a believer.

Also, thanks to Jo for her verse last week. Psalm 27 and seeking the Lord. I had that verse in mind because of your post and shared it with a troubled friend who has drifted away from the Lord. Thank you so much!
