What if . . .

It is time again to add a scripture to your journal!

Our Bible study, "Calm My Anxious Heart" has been a really good one! Linda Dillow states in our most recent chapter that there are two spiritual diseases: "What if?" and "If only". They are similar in that they both lack the eyes of faith! The "What If's" were the focus for this chapter. We have all suffered from "What if . . .", it is a form of worry! The study outlines three steps in handling the "What if's".

1. Ask yourself what is the worst that can possibly happen?
2. Prepare to accept it if you have to.
3. Calmly proceed to improve on the worst.

Is this biblical? As Dillow points out in an example, Paul was faced with death daily, the worst his enemies could do to him. "For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21. After accepting this, "to die is gain", he boldy continued to spread the word of God!

May 1st

This has been a crazy year for us at school, but we have persevered! From a hurricane, snow, flooding, and the swine flu, we have managed to make it through the year with smiles, laughter, and a strengthened bond of friendship. I found a quote that sums it all up . . .

“God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.” ~ Author Unknown

God has definitely given us strength, comfort, and lighted our way. We have so much to be thankful for! Having these verses handy has been so helpful, though I still struggle with some of them, I have relied on them in stressful times and God has used them to work in heart!

April 1 - Empty Me

It is once again time to add a scripture to your spiral! If we are determined to make this a Jesus year we must continue to learn our scripture and hold each other accountable. One of the reasons I wanted to enlist others was so you would hold ME accountable, and I plan on doing the same for you. This was not a resolution I decided to make, this is a commitment!
On another note! Most of you have heard Chris Sligh's "Empty Me", and it is worth listening to again. My prayer this blog is that we can all be emptied of the things that get in our way of having a closer relationship with Him so we can "be filled to the fullness of God".

March 15 - Scripture Memory post

It is time to post again! If you have not tried the memory verse software I mentioned in the previous post, you should! It has been an extremely important part of my learning. Try it!

Are you different? In a recent worship service, the speaker pointed out that we should be different. As Christians, we should stand out in the crowd. Do your actions and words speak of a relationship with Christ? The verse the speaker was referring to was 1 Peter 2:12, "Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us." Have you ever wondered who might be watching you, and consider that your actions alone could lead someone to Christ or bring them back if they have strayed? I remember longing to be in the group of kids who were respected by the others because they were "good" (I was not the best of teens). Their actions spoke so loud of their relationship with Christ, do yours?

Scripture Memory help!!

I don't usually post until it is time for a new scripture verse, but this is too EXCITING to wait! One of the Scripture Memory participants pointed out a site to me that is really helpful!!! She found it through a link on Bible.com. You actually download this FREE program to your computer, and then you can put in your own scripture memory verses. Once they are in, it generates game like activities that you can use to practice and test yourself. The actual sight is http://www.memoryverses.org/ (Scripture Memory System for Windows - release 3.2.49). I recommend everyone download and try it to help with your memorization!! Once you have downloaded it, you can practice anytime - even without internet!!!

March 1

I love reading everyone's post! I have also had opportunities to share the scripture I am learning and to use it to help me refocus when things felt out of control. I now have two scripture spirals, they have the same verses in them, only one is at school on my desk and the other is at home. Having them handy is necessary in helping me in my memorization and in keeping my thoughts focused. I have also begun writing some scriptures in the back of the spiral that have spoken to me in some way. Eventually they might make it to the front for memorization, but I wanted to keep them close for pondering and studying!

On a side note, I have not sent out reminders to everyone because my group email includes 32 people who wanted to participate. Our servers are down and we cannot access that account at this time, and maybe not for several more days. If you know someone who is memorizing scripture with us, please remind them that it is time to add a scripture! I will send out a reminder when we do get back online!
